Apple Sends Invitations to Upcoming Oct 22nd Event:

ht_apple_invitation_ll_131015_16x9_992Can’t wait for the new iPads? The wait should now be less than a week since Apple has recently sent out invitations for their upcoming event on Oct. 22nd. The event is expected to be mostly centered around the new upcoming 5th Gen iPad which according to rumors, will likely have design similar to the iPad Mini, but with a thinner housing, changed speaker and mic locations, and a thinner glass screen bezel.

There’s also an expected release of the new iPad Mini, and some discussion on the new Mac operating system OS X Mavericks. Rounding up the event news there may also be a new Macbook Pro release along with Apples new Mac Pro Desktops. If there are any surprises that come from the Oct 22nd event we will post about them here in our blog.

How to turn off Activation Lock on iOS7:

ios-7-findmyiphone1
iOS7 has quickly become a typically well-liked companion to the Apple iPhone, but there are some new features that have gone a bit under the radar. One of those is the new activation lock feature attached to your iCloud account, specifically “Find My iPhone”. Essentially, once Find my iPhone is turned on, so is activation lock and if your phone is ever stolen.. your Apple ID and Password will be required to re-activate the phone, even if it is restored in DFU mode. This new security feature is great for users who want an additional level of protection from thieves, however if you intend to sell your device (and your on iOS 7.0-7.0.3) you are now required to either turn off find my iPhone, or just sign out of your iCloud account both of which require your Apple ID and password. Before selling your phone, always do a backup in iTunes first, then turn off activation lock by deleting your iCloud account. Last you always want to clear your ESN before selling to the next person.

To turn off Activation Lock:

-Open Settings
-Scroll down, click “iCloud”
-Scroll down, click “Delete Account”
-Click “Delete” on confirmation
-Enter your Apple ID and Password as requested

This will simply remove your iCloud account from the phone and also remove the activation lock for a new user to put theirs in place of yours, legally. If you have already sold and shipped your iPhone us, you can still turn off iCloud remotely using iCloud.com.

To sign out of iCloud remotely:

-Open iCloud.com in your browser and sign in with your Apple ID
-Open “Find My iPhone” and click “Devices”. You will then see a list of your devices attached to your Apple ID. (It may take some time to load/find your devices)
-Select the device you’ve sold to us and click the X button next to it to unattach it from your Apple ID. You should now see a confirmation alert. Click on “Remove” to confirm.

We wont be able to pay for iPhones with Activation Lock turned-on, since it might be possible that the device is stolen, so you can simply choose either two methods above to turn-off Activation Lock, and prepare your iPhone for resale and quick payment.

HTC may be attempting to take over the No.1 spot for best smartphone of 2013 with the new HTC One Max.

2013-09-19_1857
There is no shortage of opinions when it comes to the issue of what are the best existing smartphones of 2013. Recently however, the top 4 phones mentioned over and over seem to be the Samsung Galaxy S4, iPhone 5S, HTC One and Galaxy Note 2. There are other contenders of course but these seem to be the most popular.
So its no surprise that HTC is seemingly trying to One-Up all of its current competition with its newest apparent offering, the HTC One Max. New images have surfaced courtesy of phonearena that clearly show a fingerprint scanner on the back of the phone in multiple pictures. The scanner seems to be confirmed by a second image that shows the feature as a quick setting on the phones display. This is almost certainly in response to Apples newest feature on the recently released iPhone 5S which is the only other smartphone that has this feature.
The One Max will also supposedly tout an absolutely huge 5.9-inch Full HD display which would be a step up from the Samsung Galaxy Note 3 which has a 5.7-inch display. It is also said to come with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 processor, sort of like the LG G2, but will instead run at 2.3GHZ. Also it may have 2GB of RAM along with 16GB of built in storage with a 3300mAh battery and an Ultrapixel camera from the HTC One.
Although HTC has yet to set a release date for the HTC One Max, there is still a whole quarter left in 2013 so it is just wait and see at the moment.

No Siri on the new iPhone 5C?

Gene Munster, an analyst at Piper Jaffray released a research note a few days ago, about the upcoming product launches for Apple. The research includes predictions that the upcoming budget “iPhone 5C”‘ will not come with Siri installed, which would apparently be a move to differentiate the new iPhone 5S from the lower class 5C. However, the online consensus seems to have a different opinion so far, almost unanimously disagreeing with this prediction, commenting that Siri is not very likely to be taken away from any new iOS product in the near future.
Munster also seems to predict that there will definitely be some type of fingerprint scanner incorporated in or around the home button, which would be used for unlocking purposes only. Other than these specs, the rest seems expected to be Apples typical upgrades of processor speed and battery life, more memory and a new custom A7 chip. The analyst also predicts a mid 2014 of the highly rumored large screen iPhone 6, along with the iWatch.
Since these are still mostly just predictions or opinions, we will all just have to wait and see what actually happens when Apple releases the new iPhone 5S on September 10. It is still unsure as to whether apple will also release the iPhone 5C at that time.

How to pack your device when shipping to us:

If you recently decided to sell your cell phone or iPad to us using your own box and our free prepaid shipping label, its important that you properly pack your device and apply the shipping label correctly. This helps you by helping us identify your device more quickly so that you can get paid faster. Here’s a few simple steps to take that should help make the packing/shipping process quick and easy:

Step 1

Find a strong box that is a suitable size, just big enough to comfortably fit your item. Then print out the prepaid shipping label from your initial confirmation email, and attach it to the sturdy box. If you’ve ordered a free shipping kit, please allow 2-5 business days for the kit to arrive in the mail.

Step 2

Pack your item carefully using plenty of packing materials. Just use some common sense and plenty of cushioning materials (like bubble wrap, packing peanuts, crumpled newspaper or air filled packing pillows) to pack the device in the box. Before you tape it up, please make sure your item won’t slip or move around in the box.

-We strongly recommend you to back up all data before resetting your device, and delete all personal data before packing.

Step 3

Apply the shipping label correctly by making sure the barcode is flat and readable, not bent over the package edge. This helps you by helping us identify your device more quickly so that you can get paid faster. Then simply seal your box and drop it off at the nearest USPS Post Office location.

-Please make sure to hand off to a USPS worker only and have your package scanned for faster tracking.

-Its important to remember that all electronics decline in value over time. If your package is postmarked 21 days or more after initial trade-in, our prices may have changed.

ALSO- PLEASE USE THIS CHECKLIST BEFORE SENDING YOUR PHONE(s):

  • Remove any SIM or SD Cards: If your phone has a SIM Card or SD Card, please remove them before sending.
  • Deactivate Your Account: If your phone does not have a SIM Card, it is very important for you to deactivate your phone with your current carrier. If we receive your phone and it is still active on your personal account, our offer will be lowered to the POOR CONDITION(due to BAD ESN), no matter the physical condition of the device. Check with your current carrier to find out how to deactivate your phone line.
  • Charge your device: Please charge your phone battery before sending, and turn off the item before sealing your box. This will help speed things up when we receive your package so you get paid faster.
  • Save all personal information data & files: We strongly recommend backing up and removing all personal information from your device. We will still wipe your phones data for your protection, however its always best to do this before sending to us.
  • Send just the phone or tablet only: Please do NOT send us any extra accessories or additional items that are not mentioned in your trade-in confirmation. We only need the phone/device itself.
  • And just for good measure, please note that WE DO NOT ACCEPT ANY PRODUCT REPORTED LOST OR STOLEN.

We will notify you immediately after receiving your item. As always, if you have any questions along the way, you can always check the status of your trade-in using our on-site tracking. You can also contact us through phone or email for direct help.

How To Sell Old Cell Phones, iPhones, iPods and iPads in 2014:

2014-03-09_0130

Sell old cell phones here at Buymax.

At this time, if you have an old iPhone or Android smartphone and need to sell it, you still basically have these five main options to sell your old Cell phones, iPhones, iPods or iPads for actual cash (not store credit):

1. Sell to friends or family:

Selling your old cell phone to someone you know can be the best option since you won’t have to worry about trust, and you won’t have to deal with a stranger. However, because of your close relationship, you may also not end up with the price you want since friends and family tend to expect a friendly discount.

2Sell on Craigslist:

Trying to sell old cell phones on Craigslist can also be a good option if you don’t mind putting in a bit of work posting the ad and then following up with more legwork, dealing with a possibly large volume of calls or texts directed to your personal phone number. If you’ve ever dealt on craigslist before you’ll know that you will get a large number of hagglers and traders who have no money but plenty of time to waste. Also, once you actually meet up with a potential buyer, there’s a good chance they will try to lower the discussed price or start firm negotiations which can end up very awkward for someone not used to negotiating or dealing with strangers.

3. Sell to a local pawnshop or automated mall kiosk:

To sell your cell phone(or just about anything) today in your home city, you can always go to your local pawnshop. The pawnshop is always willing to buy smartphones, but be prepared to accept low pawn shop prices. The same can be thought of the newest automated kiosks that are starting to show up in malls around the country. These machines will buy your phone and give you cash the sameday, just like the pawnshop but in a little cooler way. Again though, expect pawnshop level or lower pricing from these machines so you may want to keep looking for a better option.

4. Sell on ebay:

Aside from friends, family, or the local options.. selling your old cell phone on ebay can be the next best option. Ebay really is the worlds largest current marketplace and you can just about count on a great retail price if you list your device correctly. You also won’t have to deal with any strangers face to face. However while ebay is a great venue, and has made it fairly easy for the average person to successfully sell something online, the downside is you will need to put in a bit of work to get the actual cash from your sale.

If you don’t already have one, setting up a complete/confirmed ebay account is not something accomplished in one sitting or even one day. You will need to connect and confirm your bank and Paypal accounts, which can take anywhere from a few days to a few weeks if you have any issues. After that, plan on waiting up to three weeks to actually receive your money in your PayPal account. This is due to policies for new members that hold your funds until your package is delivered and your customer is happy.

There are also more possible issues if your buyer wants to return the phone etc. Finally, after receiving funds into your paypal acct, you will need to withdraw the funds into your personal bank acct which will take another 3-5 days. So if you don’t mind the attention, time and effort that goes into selling your old cell phone on eBay then you will likely end up with a great price and overall good experience on eBay.

5. Sell online:

This is where BuyMax (and others) come in. We can get cash (Paypal, Check or Amazon Gift Card) to you in as little as 3-6 days depending on the shipping and payment methods you choose. Yes there are definitely other online competitors but just shop around for price and you’ll find we’re always at the high end of all price ranges. We also have an awesome payment forecaster to tell you when to expect your payment. Its free to ship to us whether you want to print a label today, or wait for our free shipping kit. We also offer local cash pickup in our city of Bakersfield, CA with plans to add more cities as we expand our network of affiliates. If you do end up wanting to sell old cell phones online or off, always make sure you clear your esn before selling, so the next owner can activate it on their account.

Of the above options we are currently one of the fastest ways(and getting faster) to sell old cell phones for the most actual cash without having to deal with a stranger face to face, without any negotiation, without setting up any accounts and without dealing with customer service. What is a BAD ESN, MEID or IMEI number and how do I find them?

On all major carriers you need to have a clean ESN or Electronic Serial Number, in order for the next person to activate and use your device. The MEID and IMEI are simply acronyms for the ESN, so they all stand for the same thing.

The 3 main reasons a phone will have a BAD ESN is:

  • The device is still active on a US carrier, with a phone number still attached.
  • An overdue balance is still owed on the current owners account.
  • The device has been reported Lost or Stolen.

To check MEID/IMEI on iPhones/iPads:
-Go to: Settings/ General / About
-On sim tray(iPhone 4-4s)
-Back of iPhone 5

To check MEID/IMEI on Android phones:
-Go to: Settings/ About Phone/ Phone Status
-Behind the battery

At BuyMax, a clean ESN is needed for you to get any price higher than poor condition, even if your device is in mint condition. Also, if your device comes up lost/stolen we will not buy the device, and it will be returned to you. Please check your ESN before selling to us with your wireless carrier or at checkesnfree.com

Before sending a phone to BuyMax, please make sure:

  • Your phone is completely disconnected from your wireless service account.
  • You don’t have an unpaid balance due on your account with your wireless provider.
  • You haven’t reported the phone lost or stolen in the past.
  • You remove any passcode or lock-code on your phone.
  • You remove any personal data you wish to save.

Again, BuyMax does not accept any cell phones that have been reported lost or stolen!
