Fans and critics are growing impatient to find out what new technologies will be onboard the upcoming Samsung Galaxy S5. Although some think the device will launch on or around MWC 2014 in february, a more proven source, Flavio (the man who correctly predicted the HTC One launch day), has recently stated it will be in Mid-March in London. Either way it’s time we discussed the biggest rumors concerning the device.
Samsung has become a leading smartphone manufacturer, with sales each year exceeding the previous one. Having beaten other cellular giants such as Nokia, Motorola and HTC in market share, the Korean company has now been, in recent years, intensely focused on besting their highest current competition, Apple’s iPhone.
It is expected that the unveiling date for the much anticipated Galaxy S5 would be finalized in Q1 this year – however as previously mentioned a Mid-March launch in London seems more likely. If the leaked pictures are to be taken seriously then we are in for a brilliant model with a completely retouched UI. However, before we go into the finer details, we should tell you that the much rumored metal body instead of the signature cheap plastic bod now seems a bit more unrealistic. Kyle Brown, Head of Technical Product Management within Samsung’s IM division told TrustedReviews.com that she doesn’t believe Samsung will be making any metal device just because other manufacturers are doing so. That sure is a turn off especially for those of us who dislike the Galaxy series just because of its cheap build quality. However the leaked metal frame pictures are still there so this comment may just be made to keep their secret gaurded.
Display & Camera Upgrade – Samsung is rumored to be growing out of love with the much used AMOLED screens and are looking at LTPS LCD for Galaxy S5. And since they have purchased 3% stakes in SHARP, they may be getting the screens made by the Japanese company. Samsung has also expressed that the upcoming model will feature a gorgeous 2560 x 1440 pixel display and a 16-megapixel ISOCELL camera sensor.
Cutting Edge Performance – There are rumors that the S5 can boast up to 4 GB of RAM and the phone will support a 64-bit processor. Samsung has also confirmed that they have started mass production of the state-of-the-art 3GB low power DDR3 RAM chips. It would be very interesting to see how they’ll use them in their upcoming models.
No Curves? – It is highly unlikely that the new Galaxy S5 will feature a curved, flexible form factor. This is used in the Galaxy Round and LG G Flex models and is criticized for low yield and increased costs.
A Brand New UI – That’s right! We’ll finally get rid of the boring UI that Samsung has been carrying around for quite some time. According to the leaked images, a 2014 version of the Samsung TouchWiz UX will be launched with the Galaxy S5 model. It is rumored that the new UI would be able to run on a 5.25 inch QHD 2K resolution, that would be a notch up from the S4’s 5 inch 1080p Full HD screen.
These are just a few of the most talked about rumors revolving the Galaxy S5. Let’s see if they turn out to be true or if Samsung has more of surprises in store for us!
